When folks think of Myrtle Beach, they picture sunny shores, boardwalk fun, and salty breezes and they’re not wrong. But if you’re lookin’ to capture those sweet family moments with a little more Southern soul (and fewer crowds in the background), we’ve got a few photo spots that are off the beaten path and full of charm.

These aren’t your typical tourist stops. These are the places where the light hits just right, where the Spanish moss sways like it’s in on the secret, and where your crew can slow down long enough to smile (genuinely) for the camera.

Photographers’ Secret Spots

Murrells Inlet MarshWalk

Murrells Inlet MarshWalk

If you’re chasing golden hour magic, this is your place. With the marsh stretching out like a Lowcountry lullaby and seafood shacks lining the boardwalk, it’s the kind of spot that feels like home, even if you’re just visitin’.

Pawleys Island

Pawleys Island

Just a half hour south but a world away, Pawleys is steeped in history and Southern grace. Think windswept dunes, weathered docks, and oak trees that have seen more sunrises than we ever will. It’s a dreamy spot for timeless photos.

The Vereen Bell Tower

Hidden in Vereen Memorial Gardens, this little bell tower surrounded by marshland is as charming as it gets. It’s one of those places that feels like a well kept secret, perfect for capturing something a little different.

The Rocks at Huntington Beach State Park

When the tide’s low, the rocky outcrops here turn into a dramatic stage for waves to perform. Bring your camera (and maybe an extra hair tie if it’s breezy), this one’s a showstopper.

Unique & Off the Beaten Path Spots

Atalaya Castle

Atalaya Castle

Tucked inside Huntington Beach State Park, this old Moorish style castle looks like it came straight from a storybook. The kids can explore, the dunes roll in the background, and the photos? They speak for themselves.

The Swamp Fox Trail

A little bit of a drive, but oh so worth it. This trail winds through Francis Marion National Forest and offers a slice of serenity you won’t find on the boardwalk. Tall pines, quiet paths, and plenty of nature to frame your next favorite family photo.

Waccatee Zoo

It may be small, but Waccatee is full of personality. The animals are friendly, the setting is rustic, and it makes for some delightfully unexpected photo ops, especially for the little ones.

The Market Common District

It’s not exactly a secret, but it sure is photogenic. Fountain, flowers, charming streets, it’s got that modern meets coastal vibe that works beautifully in family photos.

Little River Waterfront

Just north of Myrtle Beach, Little River feels like a step back in time (in the best way). the views are peaceful, the buildings have stories to tell, and the seafood smells might convince you to stick around for supper.

A Few Tips from the Lens Side

  • Chase the light. Sunrise and sunset are your best friends, they bring out the gold in the marshes and that rosy glow on everyone’s cheeks.

  • Watch the tides. Especially at Pawleys and Huntington Beach. Low tide uncovers treasures like tidal pools and seashell strewn sandbars.

  • Cloudy days = magic. Don’t shy away from a little overcast, it softens the light and makes those colors pop just right.

So next time you’re packing up for a day out with the family, don’t forget your camera, or your phone with the good lens. Myrtle Beach has more than just beach views to offer. And if you find a new favorite photo spot, let us know. We love hearing y’all’s stories just as much as we love telling our own.
